Complaint Policy

Questioned or Challenged Material

The suitability of particular books or other materials may be questioned. Such cases will  be handled by the following procedure:

1. All criticism must be presented in writing (email acceptable to [email protected]) and should include the title, author, publisher, page number of each item to which an objection is made, the reason(s) for the objection, and the signature of the complainant. If the questioned material is audio or visual in nature, the written complaint shall include the title and the specific nature of the objection. Such criticism must be presented to the Library Director.

2. The Library Director shall notify the President of the Board of Trustees who will then  investigate the matter or appoint a committee to do so.

3. The review of the questioned material will be treated objectively. Every effort ought to be  made to meet with the person or groups questioning materials to consider their objections.

4. A written report of the resolution will be submitted to the complainant.

Personnel

1. All complaints about library employees who are under the Library Director’s supervision must be made to the Library Director, who in turn will present the complaint to the chair of the Personnel Committee, who then calls the committee together (if necessary) to address the problem.

2. Any complaints about the Library Director need to be made to the head of the Personnel  Committee who then meets with the President of the Board of Trustees to discuss the matter.

3. A written report of the resolution will be submitted to the complainant.

It can be found on the walking trail next to the playground. Thank you to the BMHS' Community Active Mountaineers for their continued partnership with the library to make this resource available to our community.
