Educational Seminar: Medicaid & Trusts

May 16, 6:30 pm – Medicaid Planning and Trusts Workshop

What will happen to your assets if you or your spouse need nursing home care? Come to BFTL to learn how you can avoid spending the majority of your assets on your long term health care costs.

Attorney Jennifer Cusack of the Martin, Shudt, Wallace, DiLorenzo & Johnson Law Firm will be speaking on strategies that can be used to protect your assets. Ms. Cusack is a graduate of Holy Cross College and Albany Law School and has been practicing in Rensselaer County for over 27 years. She practices primarily in areas of elder law, estate administration and planning, as well as real estate law.

This FREE workshop will cover the Medicaid application process and well as the use of GIFTS, TRUSTS, and LONG TERM HEALTH CARE INSURANCE as a means of protecting assets from long term health care costs. Attendees will have the opportunity to have their questions answered throughout the presentation. This is free and open to the public. Registration is suggested by calling the Library during normal business hours at 518-658-2231.

Educational Seminar: Will Writing

Do you have a Will? Is this something you keep meaning to take care of but don’t know how to get started, or can’t seem to find the time.  The Berlin Free Town Library can help. We are hosting a Will Writing Workshop, Thursday, January 12, at 7 p.m.  Attorney, Peter Jones, of Martin, Shudt, Wallace, DiLorenzo & Johnson law firm will be our guest speaker. Peter, originally from Grafton, NY, is a graduate of Brown University and Albany Law School. He practices in the area of estate planning and administration as well as real estate, matrimonial and criminal defense.

This workshop is designed to walk you through the first steps in starting a Will.  Peter will discuss common mistakes to avoid, things that should and shouldn’t be included in a Will,  decisions that need to be made before even meeting with a lawyer, and what the simplest, most straight forward way to write a Will is.  Peter’s presentation will be followed by a question and answer period where you can ask him specific questions that you might have. This workshop is aimed at giving you the tools you need to begin writing your own Will, and how best to protect your family from any unnecessary litigation or hardship.
